Shellfishing is open to everyone, there are however certain rules one must abide by to prevent extinction of certains species :
- 2,5 cm for bean clams (or wedge shells),
3 cm for cockles,
4 cm for clams, scallops, warty venuses and mussels
10 cm for razor shells,
5 cm (length) for velvet crabs,
12 cm for spider crabs (and maximum 6 animals),
13 cm (width) for brown crabs
Fishing is strictly prohibited in the nature reserve between Boyardville and Château d'Oléron.
A good fisherman's common sense : avoid harbours, put stones back in their place, don't stir and plough sand and mudflats, don't tread on honeycomb worms, don't fish youngster, females or any animal you shall not eat.
Every living creature is entitled to live on the seashore. Let us enjoy this wild and free nature for many years to come !
