Want to discover new horizons? The Île d'Oléron is the ideal destination for wonderful camping holidays! Bike rides along cycle tracks, swimming in the sea, watersports and relaxing on the beach; magnificent landscapes varying widely between sea and forest; a first-class historical heritage – you made the right choice, deciding to come camping on the Île d'Oléron!

BEACHES, SEA-BATHING AND WATERSPORTS AT OLÉRON!

White sand, little dunes and a light breeze – the stage is set for you to enjoy your holiday by the sea. From the campsite it’s only a few hundred metres through the dunes to the beach of Les Sables Vignier at Saint Georges d'Oléron. There are lifeguards in high season, and there’s even a children’s club. If you love board sports, then Les Huttes beach at Saint Denis d'Oléron, further north, is just made for you. On the programme are surfing, windsurfing, and standup paddleboarding, to mention just a few things. For anything else you may want to do, don’t forget that the Île d'Oléron has nearly 60 kilometres if beaches, so you’re bound to find THE beach for your camping holiday!

HOLIDAYS THAT COMBINE NATURE AND CULTURE, RELAXING AND EXPLORING!

Among the iconic tourist sites of the Île d'Oléron, come and explore the Citadel of the Chateau d'Oléron, the famous Chassiron lighthouse at Saint-Denis d'Oléron, Fort-Louvois at Bourcefranc-Le Chapus, and the Moulin des Loges mill at Saint-Just-Luzac, or what about the R. Léglise naval shipyard? During your trips to towns and villages, you will see white-painted delightful fishermen’s cottages with their blue shutters, beautiful and impressive houses, and little alleyways edged with hollyhocks. The little villages of the Île d'Oléron are full of heritage buildings – take the opportunity to search out the forgotten corners while you are wandering around!

Camping on the Île d'Oléron will also give you a chance to reconnect with nature. From Port des Salines, take a boat trip through the salt marshes and discover the flora and fauna of the island before going to the eco-museum. If you are looking for somewhere a bit cooler, the national forest of Saint-Trojan-les-Bains, the largest forest on the island, is great for families, with its wealth of paths and cycle tracks.

NOT TO BE MISSED:

  • The Marais aux Oiseaux, an exceptional 50-hectare marsh site where you will find all the riches of the Pays Marennes-Oléron natural heritage.
  • The Musée historique de l'île d'Oléron (historical museum), at Saint-Pierre-d'Oléron, listed as a Musée de France (French national museum).
  • The port of La Cotinière, most important fishing port in the Charente-Maritime area, a very lively and colourful place.
  • A canoe or stand-up paddleboard trip in the channels of the Boyardville salt marsh.
